Sabkhas (Salt Flats) Field Trip
Information on flat and very saline areas of sand or silt lying just above the water table. In Arabic, an area such as this is described as a sabchat. This Web site is a challenge to read but explains the formation of sabkhas and the life forms found in them. They pose a danger, particularly to vehicles, as one amazing photograph shows.
