The Marshall Plan
In 1947 the Marshall Plan was announced. This plan gave aid to countries trying to recover from World War II. Much of the aid was in the form of food, fuel, and farming equipment. The map illustrates countries that recieved aid under the plan.

In 1947 the United Nations proposed to divide British-controlled Palestine into Arab and Jewish states. When the British army withdrew its forces from the region in 1948, war broke out between Israel and neighboring Arab states.
