Modeling Expressions and Equations

Modeling Expressions

To model an expression, drag tiles onto one side of the work area.

For example, to model -2x2 + 3x+ 6, drag the following tiles onto one side:

Notice that the readout above that side of the work area shows
-2x2 + 3x+ 6.

To remove a tile, drag it out of the work area. Notice that the readout for an expression changes whenever you add or remove a tile from that side.

Expressions with Subtraction

In this tool, subtracted terms are shown using negative tiles. For example, to model 5x - 7, drag the following tiles onto one side:

Notice that the display shows 5x + (-7).

Modeling Equations

The two sides in the work area represent the two sides of an equation.

To model an equation, model each side of the equation on a different side of the work area. Then click Set Sides Equal.

Notice that the readout in the top line above the work area always shows the original equation-no matter what changes are made to the expressions on either side of the work area.
