Modeling Equivalent Fractions

To model equivalent fractions, model them on different grids. When the filled areas are equal, the fractions are equivalent.

For example, to show that

• Fill 9 sections of a twelfths grid.
• Fill 3 sections of a fourths grid next to the twelfths grid.

The filled areas are equal.
