Equations Tab

Use the Equations tab to enter equations or inequalities to be graphed.

Graphing Equations

Up to four equations ("y1", "y2", "y3", and "y4") can be graphed at once. Use the keyboard and/or the keypad to the right of the equation boxes to enter the equations.

Click Graph to graph the equation(s).

Note: Any changes made to equations or window settings do not take effect until Graph is clicked.

Graphing Inequalities

To change an equation to an inequality, click the equals sign, then choose an inequality sign. Click Graph to show the inequality.

Graphs of inequalities have a boundary and a shaded region above or below the boundary. In this calculator, inequalities with "=" or "=" have a thick boundary. Inequalities with "<" or ">" have a thin boundary.

Note: For x-values where a function is undefined, shadings may be inaccurate.

Hiding/Showing Graphs

Click the "Eye" icons to hide or show graphs. A red X means that the graph will not appear the next time Graph is clicked.

Changing Colors

Click a colored square to select a new color. Click Graph to see the graph in the new color.

If No Graph Appears

The graph may not have points in the graphing window. Use Zoom Out or change the Settings to "search" for the graph.

Also check the "Eye" icons to make sure the graph is not hidden.

Zoom In/Zoom Out

Click the Zoom In button to examine a part of the graph more closely. Click the Zoom Out button to view more of the graph.

Tracing

To trace the graph of an equation, first select the equation. To do this, click in its equation box. (The selected equation has a white background; the others have a gray background.)

Click Trace to start tracing the selected equation. An orange point appears on the graph.

Use the left and right arrows under the Trace button to move the point along the graph. The coordinates of the trace point appear in the lower left corner of the window.

Function Values Table

The Function Values table displays x- and y-coordinates for several points on the graph of the selected equation. (The equation box for the selected equation has a white background; the others have gray backgrounds.)

For an inequality, the coordinates of the points in the table lie on the boundary.

To change an x-value in the table, highlight the old value and enter a new one. The new y-value then appears in the table.

Note: If no y-values appear in the table for one or more x-values, the graph does not have points with those x-values.
