On June 6, 1944, U. S., British, and Canadian ground troops were ferried to the northern shore of Normandy and stormed the beaches under heavy artillery fire. At the same time American airborne divisions parachuted into Ste. Mère-Eglise and Carentan, and British paratroopers landed near Caen. |
