Writer's Model
 Report of Information
 
       
A report of information presents research on a topic and answers the questions Who? What? When? Where? Why? and How? A good report can answer a writer's own questions about a topic as well as the questions readers might have.
 
Many reports of information use the structure illustrated in the framework below. Print this framework and use it as a guide when you write your own report.
   
 
    Introduction
• Attention-grabbing beginning
• Main idea statement
Hook your readers Use an interesting fact, quotation, or question to grab your readers' interest.
State the main idea After reading your main idea statement, readers should understand what the report is about.
 
 
    Body
• Heading #1
  Supporting details
• Heading #2
  Supporting details
  and so on
Write about each heading To support each heading, include details such as facts, statistics, examples, and expert opinions.
Explain the details Write about what the details mean or why they are important.
 
 
    Conclusion
• Restatement of main idea
Wrap it up Restate your main idea and offer a conclusion based on your main points. Try to leave your readers with something to think about.

• List of sources used
List your sources of information List sources in alphabetical order by the author's last name or by the first word of the title if no author is listed.
