A news article provides readers with information about current events. It includes the details about an interesting or important event. News articles are a form of expository writing, which means that their purpose is to inform.
 
Many news articles use the structure illustrated in the framework below. Print this framework and use it as a guide when you write your own news article.
   
 
    Lead
• Attention-grabbing opening
• Answers to the 5W-How? questions
Capture your audience's attention Use an unusual or interesting detail, and try to let your readers know whodid what.
Give answers to the 5W-How?questions Answer all six of the questions: who, what, when, where, why,and how.Your lead may be one, two, or three short paragraphs, depending on how much information you have to report.

Organize the details in decreasing order of importance First, provide the details that will give your audience a better understanding of the event.
